Chat Ma Mansion, located at the junction of Ma Tau Wai Road and Chatham Road North, had a large Vita Soy Advertisement on the external wall. The eye-catching sign became a landmark of To Kwa Wan that the minibus drivers and passengers commonly refer "Vita soy" as the station name. Other well-known station names in the community include "Red apple" and "Ruby Theatre", etc. Yet, the once-famous landmarks such as Vita Soy advertisement and Ruby Theatre have vanished under the change of times, "Red Apple" and Tokwawan Market and Government Offices are what is left behind.
Such landmarks that are commonly referred to by the local community prove how visual imageries are transformed into historical symbolism. Regardless of the inevitable disappearance of their physical entities, these symbols are hidden in the collective memories of the To Kwa Wan neighborhoods. Perhaps, the fragments scattering all over the community can be gathered and reassembled into new signage.
Through organizing the one-day workshop, Vita The Bus Stop aims to explore Kowloon City with the neighborhood, regain a new understanding of the community, and create advertising signs of their own. In order to allow our participants to explore the area with a brand new perspective, a guided tour around the locality is carried out before the workshop.
