TAP CHAN born in Hong Kong, currently lives and works in Hong Kong. She obtained a B.A. in Fine Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 2011 and an M.A. in Visual Arts from the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2014. Her works mostly appear in the form of installations, videos and sculptures. She is interested in exploring the idea of liminality that is embedded in daily life, where the boundaries between fiction and reality are often blurred, like the undefined psychic and emotional ruptures experienced during bouts of insomnia.

There is no escape from re-development and the ever changing of city…

“Memory is redundant: it repeats signs so that the city can begin to exist”
- Italo Calvino "Invisible City”

It was a strange and abstract experience to visualise Wanhua district ancient well in Taipei and the Song Dynasty well in To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong. They are like imaginary objects, invisibility existing.

French anthropologist Mark Augé proposed “place” and “non-place” discourse. A "non-place" is a place that can be constantly modified. While a “place” carries historical memories and symbols, cannot be completely wiped out. Non-place is not uncommon in Hong Kong, in addition to transportations and large malls, many shops and restaurants are also fleeting to become a non-place.

During the state of flux and acceleration in To Kwa Wan district reconstruction project, buildings surrounded by bamboo sheds and covers are commonly found. What would happen next after these temporary structures Attached and Detached…
