In Quest for the Community Treasure
Urban redevelopment is on the way in the old district To Kwa Wan - Kai Tak area is undergoing a massive change and the Sha Tin-Central Link will soon start to operate. Developing from a small village to what it is like today, how does the old district To Kwa Wan welcome the advent of the new? How to pass on the cultural history and stories embedded in the community amidst the rapid urban development and social changes?
In the series of five sessions, participants identified the “treasures”of this community by finding what was particularly precious here. They first learnt more about Tokwawan through a history talk and a community tour. Then, with the help of our two artists, they tried to mark down the “treasures” they had discovered in the mapping workshop. Those “community treasures” were then transformed into artworks collectively created by teams of four. The community treasure hunt on the last day served as a chance for the participants to share their works, as well as the ideas and stories behind, with the public in the neighbourhood and online.
*The project is sponsored by and co-organized with the Kowloon City District Council
